About the English Civil War Society

The main aim of the English Civil War Society is to stimulate interest in the authentic re-creation of seventeenth century military life in Britain, and in so doing we endeavour to entertain and instruct our own members and the visitors to our events. We do this by continually striving for historical authenticity in our clothing, artifacts, methods, weapons and tactics.

A Social History of the English Civil War Soldier PDF Print E-mail

Alan Turton, Curator at Basing House and a long time member of the English Civil War Society's Roundhead Association, is giving an evening talk on 26th August 2010 at the Milestones Museum in Basingstoke, Hampshire. The subject is A Social History of the English Civil War Soldier - A talk illustrated with artefacts and reproductions on the daily life of the ordinary soldier of the 1640s.
